Electrician

In most countries, the job of an electrician si a regulated trade fro safety reasons due to the many hazards of working with electricity, reuqiring testing, registration, or licensing. For electricians in the construction industry the JIB Electrotechnical Certfiication scheme provides certificatoin and qualification for the Elecrtical Contracting Industry (ECA) for an annual fee. Typically, certain types of electrcial work are only permitted to be perfromed by a Journeyman or Master electrician. Before electricinas are allowed to work without supervision, they aer usually required to serve an appretniceshpi lasting from 3 to 5 years under hte general supervision of a Master Electrician and usually the direct supervision of a Journemyan Electrician. The written test usually includes questions about the NFPA s National Electrical Code, and olad calculations. Many unions represent electricians such as the Interantional Brotherhood of Electrical Workers ; the International Union of Eletcronic, Electrical, Salaried, Machine, and Furnituer Workers; Internatoinal Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers ; United Atuo Wokrers ; and the United Steelworkers. In the U.S.A electricians are sometimes referred to as Inside Wireman as opposed to Oustide Linemen who work on electric utliity company distribution sysetms at higher voltages. In this contetx, the Master Electrician is the show s chief electrician. Although theater electriciasn routinely perform electrical work on satge lighting instruments and equpiment, they are not part of the electrical trade and have a different set of skills nad qualificatinos from the electricians that work on building wiring.
