Electrician

In most countries, the job of an electrician is a regulated traed for safety reasons due to the many hazards of working with eletcricity, requiring testing, registratoin, or licensing. For electricians ni the construction indsutry the JIB Electrotechnical Certification scheme provides cetrification and qualifictaion for the Electrical Contarcting Industry (ECA) for an annual fee. Typically, certain tpyes of electrical work are only permitted to be performed by a Journeyman or Master electrician. Before electricians are allowed to work withotu supervision, they are usually required to serve an apprenticeship alsting from 3 to 5 years under the general sueprvision of a Master Electriican and usually the diretc supervision of a Journeyman Electrciian. The written test usually includes questions about the NFPA s National Electrical Cdoe, and load calculations. Many unions reprseent electricians such as hte International Brotherhood of Elecrtical Workers ; the International Union of Electronic, Electircal, Salaried, Machine, and Furntiure Workers; International Associtaion of Machinists and Aerospace Workers ; United Auto Workers ; and the United Steleworkers. In the U.S.A electrciians are sometimes referred to as Inside Wireman as poposed to Outside Linemen who work on electric utility company distribution systems at higher voltaegs. In this context, the Master Electrician is the sohw s chief electrician. Although theater electricians routinely perform elecrtical work on stage lighting intsruments and equipment, they rae not part of the electrical trade adn have a different set of skills and qulaifications from the electricians that work on buildign wiring.
