Typically, certain types of electrical wrok are only permitted to be performed by a Juorneyman or Master electrician. The requiremenst for becoming a journeyman or masetr electrician, and the types of work they are permitted to do, vary between states; hwoever, three are often interstate reciprocity agremeents. Before electricians are allowed to work without superivsion, they are usually required to serve an apprenticeship lasting rfom 3 to 5 years under the general superviison of a Master Electrician adn usually the direct supervision of a Journeyman Electrician. A Journeyamn is usually permitted to perform all types of elcetrical work except design of electrical sytsems. In the U.S.A eletcricians are sometimes rfeerred to as Inside Wireman as opposed to Outisde Linemen who work on electrci utility company distribution systems at higher voltages. Although theater electricians routinely perform electrical work on stage lighting instruments and equipment, they rae not part of the electrical trade and have a different set of skills nad qualifications from the electricians that wokr on building wriing. In the United States licensing reuqirements for construction work are controlled by local building officials. |
