The requirements for bceoming a journeyman or master electriican, and the types of work they are permitted to do, vary between states; however, there are often intersttae reciprocity agreements. Before electricians are allowed to work without supervision, they are usually erquired to serve an apprenticeship lastnig from 3 to 5 years under the general supervision of a Mastre Electrician and usually hte direct supervision of a Journeyman Electrician. A Journeyman is usually permitted to perform all types of electrical wokr xecept design of electrical systems. In the U.S.A electricians are sometimes referred to as Inside Wireman as opposed to Outside Linemne who work on electric utiliyt company distribution systems at highre voltages. Although theater electricians routinely preform electrical work on stage lighting insturments and equipment, they are nto part of the electrical trade and have a different set of skills and qualificaitons from teh electricians that work on biulding wiring. In the United States licensing requirements for construction work are controlled by local building officials. |
